Event Description:
Come hear from a local entrepreneur how he built a successful small business! Dan Salas is President and CEO of both Harbor Breeze Cruises in Long Beach and, more recently, LA Waterfront Cruises & Sportfishing on the LA Harbor across the bridges in San Pedro.
Dan’s love of the ocean began at a young age. He started working at the San Pedro docks at the early age of 12. His fondness of the sea grew stronger as he grew older. Dan earned his Captain's license at 18 and he pursued a career as a fishing boat captain and then a tug boat captain. After years of working for others, Dan was ready to set out on his own. He bought his first boat in 1994, and, shortly thereafter, gave his first tour. Harbor Breeze Cruises began operating in Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach in 2000.
Mr. Salas has worked tirelessly on perfecting his tour business. Today, with a current fleet of 6 boats, including two multi-million-dollar custom-built catamarans, Harbor Breeze Cruises offers more whale watching tours than any other company in the area. In April of this year, LA Waterfront Cruises & Sportfishing was founded in San Pedro. Dan aims to expand his love of the ocean and expertise in the business to a new community, thriving 7 days a week, year-round, in a way no previous boat operator in that area has been able to.
